New York Resident Dies After I-80 Crash

BROOKVILLE BOROUGH – A Brooklyn, N.Y. resident is dead following a single-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon on Interstate 80 eastbound in Brookville Borough.

According to a news release issued by DuBois-based state police, at approximately 12:53 p.m., the crash occurred as a box truck crossed the North Fork Bridge.

The operator reportedly lost control and struck a concrete barrier on the right side of the bridge. Upon initial impact, it traveled across both lanes and struck the concrete barrier on the left side.

State police say the truck continued traveling on top of the barrier until falling to the bottom of the bridge. Both occupants were ejected, and upon impact with the ground, the truck caught fire.

The passenger was pronounced dead on-scene by the Jefferson County Coroner. The operator suffered “suspected major injuries,” according to the release.
