CLEARFIELD – A Ramey woman is facing felony charges for reportedly leaving her children home alone for about a half-hour while she went for cigarettes.
Mallori Melissa Rebar, 34, is being charged by Trooper Matthew Peacock of the Clearfield-based state police with two counts of felony endangering the welfare of children.
Rebar waived her right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday during centralized court. Her bail is currently set at $20,000 unsecured.
The charges stem from an incident at 12:48 a.m. Jan. 7 when Rebar left her 3- and 4-year-old children home alone, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
State police say she was captured on her neighbors’ home video surveillance system, as she entered her vehicle and backed up about 119 feet until striking their garage door.
When Peacock spoke to the neighbor, he said his garage door didn’t function properly the following day, Jan. 8. He said he had a relative go to his home and take a look at it.
Later, he was contacted and learned someone had apparently hit the door, prompting him to return home and review his surveillance footage.
He said he saw Rebar hit his garage door with her vehicle, as she left her home, and because he didn’t see her children with her, it appeared she’d left them home alone.
Peacock was provided with the surveillance footage, and learned that Rebar has an alcohol problem. It was also learned her husband was out of town for work the night of the incident.
When the neighbor’s wife asked Rebar why her kids were left home alone, she reportedly admitted she was intoxicated, “all worked up” and needed cigarettes.
On June 24, Peacock spoke with a female who had a text-message conversation with Rebar within days of the incident. She said Rebar admitted she’d left her children alone, and that it was a “mistake.”
