Programs Slated for Aug. 12-16 at Parker Dam

PENFIELD – Staff members have announced the schedule of programs for Aug. 12-16 at the Parker Dam State Park.

Wednesday, Aug. 12

Perseid Meteor Shower Watch: 

9 p.m. – Beach

Join us for our annual Perseid Meteor Shower watch at the beach.  Bring blankets or other comfortable sit-upons to scan the night sky.

Thursday, Aug. 13

Perseid Meteor Shower—Epilogue: 

10 a.m. – Beach House steps

If you missed it last night, no worries—Aug. 12 is only the peak of the shower.  Learn where and when to look over the next several nights during this brief recap.

Souders Trail Hike: 

6 p.m. – outside Park Office 

Enjoy this easy walk along the park’s shortest trail – Souder’s Trail.  Mixed hardwoods, hemlock bottom, streamside, and more.

Friday, Aug. 14

CCC Trail Hike: 

10 a.m. – outside CCC Museum

This out and back hike is about two miles of fairly easy hiking.  We will discuss some park history and interesting facts along the way as well.  Wear appropriate shoes.

The Life and Times of Punxsutawney Phil: 

8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater

The official documentary film of the Punxsutawney groundhog club inner circle, this film is the True Story of the World’s most famous weather forecaster and his very special day.

Saturday, Aug. 15

History Walk: 

3 p.m. – Beach House steps 

Join us for this guided walk back through time as we hike around the lake to visit various historic spots.  Lumbering history, CCC history, and more modern history shared.

Social Distancing—Animals Did It First:  8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater 

Animals have been social distancing for a long time.  Learn the why and the how of these behaviors, and how humans display similar actions for very similar reasons, and some not-so-similar reasons.

Sunday, Aug. 16

Tea and Talk: 

7 p.m. – Beach House back steps 

Bring your own cup to sample some sweet fern/mountain mint tea grown right here in the park.  Talk is whatever interests you about the environment.  The Sunday evening tea and talk has been a summer tradition for over 25 years.

Note to visitors attending educational and interpretive programs at the park:  Program attendees are advised that they must wear face coverings, social distancing will be required during the program, and total attendance will be limited to 25.  Your cooperation is appreciated.
