HARRISBURG – There are over 960 new cases of coronavirus in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania today, including two in Clearfield County.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health has confirmed that as of 12 a.m., there are 962 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 104,358.
According to the department’s Web site, Clearfield County has 107 total cases while 3,388 patients have tested negative. Of those cases, 84 are confirmed and 23 are probable.
It was noted that Allegheny and Philadelphia counties are reporting an increase of 147 and 311 cases, respectively.
Since there was no data reported from Philadelphia yesterday, the number of new cases is a culmination of cases from the past two days.
The number of tests administered within the last seven days, between July 16 and July 22, is 147,837 with 5,731 positive cases.
There were 19,626 test results reported to the department through 10 p.m., July 22. These results represent the total number of tests administered.
There are 7,079 total deaths attributed to COVID-19, an increase of 16 new deaths reported. County-specific information and a statewide map are available on the COVID-19 Data Dashboard.
Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine reminds that mask-wearing is required in all businesses and whenever leaving home, and consistent mask-wearing is critical to preventing the spread of COVID-19.
There are 637 Pennsylvania patients who have a positive serology test and either COVID-19 symptoms or a high-risk exposure, which are considered probable cases and not confirmed cases.
There are 981,259 patients who have tested negative state-wide to date. Of the patients who have tested positive to date, the age breakdown is as follows:
- 1 percent are ages 0-4;
- 1 percent are ages 5-12;
- 3 percent are ages 13-18;
- Nearly 9 percent are ages 19-24;
- 37 percent are ages 25-49;
- 23 percent are ages 50-64; and
- 25 percent are ages 65 or older.
Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older. More data is available here.
The department said it’s seeing significant increases in the number of COVID-19 cases among younger age groups, particularly 19- to 24-year-olds.
An alert was sent to healthcare providers about the changing COVID-19 case demographics, as there are more cases in younger age groups than in those 50-64 and 65-plus.
The following regions have seen significant increases among 19- to 24-year-olds in each month from April to present in July:
- SW – Approximately 5 percent of cases in April to approximately 20 percent of cases so far in July;
- SE – Nearly 5 percent of cases in April to approximately 18 percent of cases so far in July;
- NE – Approximately 6 percent of cases in April to approximately 16 percent of cases so far in July;
- NW – Nearly 7 percent of cases in April to nearly 14 percent of cases so far in July;
- NC – Approximately 8 percent of cases in April to nearly 13 percent of cases so far in July; and
- SC – Approximately 7 percent of cases in April to nearly 14 percent of cases so far in July.
In nursing and personal care homes, there are 18,892 resident cases of COVID-19, and 3,707 cases among employees, for a total of 22,599 at 804 distinct facilities in60counties.
Out of the total deaths, 4,829 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities. A county breakdown can be found here.
It was also noted that approximately 7,752 of Pennsylvania’s total cases are in health care workers.
