Programs Announced for July 2-4 at Parker Dam

PENFIELD – Staff members at the Parker Dam State Park have announced the program schedule for July 2-4.

Thursday, July 2

Cabin Colony Explore-Disbursed Off-trail Hike: 

10 a.m. – Cabin Road, above Cabin #1 

Meet the naturalist along the cabin road to begin this off-trail disbursed (to maintain social distance) hike through the woods of Parker Dam State Park to explore and discover sections of the park not normally seen.

Friday, July 3

Red, White, and Blue—Naturally: 

8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater 

Many plants and animals have as part of their name the colors red, white, or blue.  Learn the interesting details of a few that are found in Pennsylvania.

Saturday, July 4

Through the Years: 

10 a.m. – near spillway garden

This is an anniversary weekend for the park.  Learn more about the park and area’s history and all of the change that has occurred through the years.

Creating a Butterfly Garden, Guest Speaker: Casen Zitzelberger: 

1 p.m. – garden near Ball Field 

One improvement we can make around our home can be to turn spaces in our yards into natural habitats attractive to native wildlife.  Monarch butterflies are one species that not only needs our help, but having them around creates added natural beauty.

Annual Reading of the Declaration of Independence: 

2 p.m. – Beach 

Join us as we read the Declaration of Independence in its entirety.  If you have never really thought about what is written there, how can you appreciate your freedom?  Come and lend an ear.  Broadcast over the public address system.

Note to visitors attending educational and interpretive programs at the park:  Program attendees are advised that they must have face masks in their possession, social distancing will be required during the program, and attendance will be limited.  Your cooperation is appreciated.
