DUBOIS – DuBois City Council on Monday night heard the first reading of Council Bill 1947, which proposes semi-truck braking restrictions.

Council said the bill – if approved – would ban engine, jake and compression braking within the city. City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio noted most complaints were concerning jake brakes.

Council said that these forms of braking often generate a lot of truck noise.

Also, on Monday night, council member Diane Bernardo reported that the state legislature’s push to allow municipal police to use radar has died.

She said any passage of law to implement this change would require the state to “start over from scratch.”  She said city officials have supported such legislation since 2015.

In other business, council approved a handicap parking spot request on Scribner Avenue. While it was requested by one person, council said it’ll be open for anyone to use.

With receipt of grant funding, council authorized the solicitation of bids for Juniata Bridge repairs.  Work is expected to begin later this summer after fishing season.
