CLEARFIELD – A “suspicious” package located Monday morning outside of law offices in Clearfield Borough was found to be nothing dangerous.

According to Clearfield County District Attorney Ryan Sayers, the package was discovered at approximately 7:30 a.m. outside of 207 E. Market St.

The building houses the law offices of Chris Pentz and Naddeo & Lewis LLC, and is directly across the street from the Clearfield County Courthouse.

Sayers said the package was discovered by one of the attorneys who immediately contacted police and also posted a note warning people not to touch it.

The package was a wooden, military-style box with yellow lettering. It was believed to be suspicious because of its appearance and the unrest that’s spread across the United States.

Sayers said local authorities initially shut down East Market Street but expanded the roadway and pedestrian closure upon recommendation from bomb squad members who were en route.

He said streets were shut down from East Locust to Cherry streets and from Third to Front streets, and area businesses were alerted of the situation.

He said a member of the Penn State University Bomb Squad and two members of the Pennsylvania State Police Bomb Squad in Greensburg assisted with the police investigation.

“It turned out to be nothing – at all,” Sayers said. “It was paperwork and photos” for a court case that one of the attorneys is on the other side of.

He commended the response of local law enforcement, including the Clearfield Borough police, Clearfield County Sheriff’s Department and emergency services.

He said they acted quickly to clear and secure the area immediately surrounding the courthouse. “I’m glad there was no threat, no injuries,” Sayers said. “It was a great drill.”
