CLEARFIELD – Earlier this year, the Clearfield Area United Way compiled information to provide United Way Worldwide.
Some of CAUW’s highlights included that:
- it continues to provide “great, albeit small,” things throughout eastern, southern and central Clearfield County.
- it has a community-driven board of directors that strives to build a better life for county residents.
- it continues ongoing agency site visits and collected over 7,000 children’s books for its Reading Ripples project.
- it’s partnered with the Familywize Discount Prescription Card Program, saving residents over $65,000 at pharmacies.
- it’s partnered with food distributions and a shoe closet, as well as mailed out cards to area residents.
- it’s donated gently-used computers to both member and non-member agencies.
- it’s continued its “Jeans for Teens” program, giving youth the chance to shop for new school clothing. With discounts and extras, teens are gifted more than $100 in items.
- board members have made personal purchases of “wish items” for member agencies to support their community.
- it’s part of the Emergency Food & Shelter Program, Healthy Choices Advisory Committee, the Provider Resource Network and more.
- it holds “Tag Day,” Retail Day for United Way” and Dine Around events in partnership with local stores and restaurants to boost its annual campaign.
- it’s collected hundreds of pieces of luggage to share with a member agency working with at-risk youth, as well as items for the Prom Closet.
“CAUW is a small office,” said Nancy Pinto, chief professional officer,” but when we hear of a need, we try to help. It’s been CAUW’s mission since the 1940’s.”
