DUBOIS – The DuBois Public Pool will open this summer, announced City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio at Monday night’s council meeting.

Suplizio said that the pool is tentatively scheduled to open June 1, if the governor lifts his COVID-19 shelter-in-place and social distancing measures.

He said if necessary, the city will delay or even cancel the pool’s opening. He noted that it will take around three weeks for the city to prepare for the pool’s opening.

Suplizio said the city plans to purchase the home at 234 Church St., which has been available for some time now. He said the asking price was high, and there’s been an agreement on $21,000.

Suplizio said the city will raze the property, and that will allow work to widen the entrance to Showers Field.  City Solicitor Toni Cherry said that any liens on the property will be deducted from the final closing cost.

On Monday night, Suplizio reported that parking meter revenues are down “We usually bring in thousands of dollars…”  However, because no one is currently using the Pershing lot, he said the city brings in “pennies” from parking meters.

Suplizio also said the city will install a door between the lobby area and its rear offices at the municipal building.
