Route 53 Paving Scheduled on Slide Repair Job in Clearfield County

COOPER TOWNSHIP – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is alerting area drivers that roadway paving work is scheduled soon for a section of Route 53 (Kylertown/Drifting Highway).

This work will complete activities on an emergency slide project that PennDOT began in mid-2019. The work location is in Cooper Township between the village of Drifting and the Centre County line (Red Moshannon Creek).

Normal highway and bridge construction projects in Pennsylvania remain paused as part of the commonwealth’s efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

This project is part of critical work that continues statewide addressing safety needs and work needed to eliminate roadway restrictions that could impede the ability for the movement of life sustaining goods and services.

Work is expected to start Monday, April 20 and be in place for about a week. All work is weather dependent.

Work activities will include final paving, shoulder backup and seeding. This work will take place under roadway flagging, with an alternating traffic pattern in place. There will be no detour during this work.

Overall work on this design-build project included construction of two retaining walls as well as 600 feet of roadway reconstruction. HRI Inc. of State College was the contractor for this $1.8 million project.

PennDOT reminds drivers to obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.
