BREAKING: Amid COVID-19 Pandemic, Clearfield Co. Furloughs 42 Employees

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners on Friday announced the temporary furloughs of 42 county employees as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The furloughs are effective beginning Monday, April 20, according to a press release issued by the commissioners’ office.

Most are “rolling” furloughs with two weeks on/two weeks off, the commissioners said, adding this enables full-time employees to keep health insurance and other benefits during this trying time.

“With the county offices closed to the public and only essential business allowed, we are trying to reduce the number of people in our offices for employee safety,” the commissioners explained.

“We also anticipate a huge surge of business once the county is fully reopened, and we will need extra budgetary resources.”

The temporary furloughs will help the county to prepare financially for its local economic restart, according to the press release.

“Our goal is to return all furloughed staff to work as soon as the county courts and offices are fully reopened,” the commissioners said.
