DuBois Council Votes to Maintain Pool Rates If It Opens

DUBOIS – Amid the COVID-19 crisis, DuBois City Council voted on Monday night to maintain the same rates for the DuBois Public Pool as last year, if it is able to open this season.

Council said it’s difficult to say whether or not the pool will open for two primary reasons. First, it will depend on when social distancing rules are lifted since an open pool involves a crowd.

The other concern noted by council involved hiring lifeguards. According to City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio, the city would normally initiate the hiring process around now.

He said the city uses schools to spread the word of the lifeguard openings to their students. He said he plans to explore what other neighboring communities will do.

Council said there will also be a meeting to discuss the status of DuBois Community Days this Friday. It was noted that other summer concerts are in “limbo” at this point, too.

Councilman Ed Wash asked if Community Days could be postponed to a later date. Suplizio said “probably not” and suggested if the event had to be cancelled, concerts be planned for fall.

In other business, council voted to move forward with two grants for community parks and another one that would upgrade street lighting in the area of Division Street and state Route 255.

Council also announced the cancellation of its April 23 workshop meeting.
