CURWENSVILLE – A special meeting was held Monday to work on employee handbooks for Curwensville Borough staff.
The Curwensville Borough Council held the meeting immediately following their regular council meeting.
Council member Harriet Carfley said the handbooks were recommended by representatives of the street department and the police department’s union.
Carfley said the handbooks would outline the duties and other requirements of borough employees.
The council went through the handbooks and made recommendations for changes. Among the items discussed were hiring and firing practices; harassment and complaint procedures; conduct when dealing with the public; Americans with Disabilities Act compliance; the process of disciplining employees; retirement; smoking policies; drug policies; personnel files; breaks and overtime travel.
Carfley said many of the items addressed in the handbook drafts were covered under the employees’ collective bargaining agreements, but the council did offer several suggestions.
The handbooks will be finalized at the next council meeting.
