Iditarod Entrant Karin Hendrickson to be a Guest on Sports Sunday

CLEARFIELD — Female Iditarod musher, Karin Hendrickson of Wasilla, Alaska will be a special guest this Sunday on the popular radio show “Sports Sunday” co-hosted by Dave Marino and Bear Stewart on WOKW-FM, 102.9 at 9:10 AM.

Karin was raised in California and got hooked on the race, and most importantly developed a tremendous love and respect for the dogs, in 2002. In 2003 she decided  to move to Alaska to become a dog owner and, of course, a musher in the Iditarod.
Her first race was in 2009 and since then has participated in eight Iditarods.  She missed one race (2015) due to an injury as the result of being hit by a runaway truck while training her dogs in 2014, breaking her back in three places. None of her dogs were injured in the mishap and Karin returned to racing once again in the world’s most famous dogsled event in 2016.

This year’s race is March 7 with Karin joining 56 other mushers in their quest to become an Iditarod champion.

Anchorage is the starting point with the race finishing 975 miles away in Nome.  Because this year is an even numbered year the race will be on the northern route.  On odd number years a southern route is utilized which totals 998 miles.

Sports Sunday is now in its 15th year, with the first show being aired on September 4, 2005. Bear and Dave would like to thank their loyal listeners and the amazing list of local sponsors, many who have been with the show the entire 15 years.
