Curwensville Borough Approves Parking Request

CURWENSVILLE – Patrons to a local hair salon will have improved parking.

At Monday’s meeting, Hair Stylist Karen Potts asked the Curwensville Borough Council for help with a parking issue she was having in front of her business.

Potts said there is a parking space in front of her business that is marked “No Parking; Load Zone.” She said she has several patrons who are elderly, disabled or otherwise physically unable to walk great distances.

She said the area in question is well over 16-feet wide and does not obstruct the sidewalk.

Potts said she had never had a problem until the recent “Home for The Holidays” event. She said an officer had come into her business and asked one of her customers to move their vehicle.

Potts said she tried to talk to the officer who said the spot was marked “no parking” and that “no parking means no parking.”

Potts said the businesses that needed the loading zone are no longer located in the area. She asked if the council would consider changing the signage to make the spot a “15-minute” zone.

She said if her customers park in the spot, she can get their hair cut in about 10 minutes. She can move that customer to the front of the line.

The council voted to change the parking spot to “20-minute” parking and said they will tell the officers to treat the spot as a “20-minute” zone until official signs can be ordered and properly posted.

Also, at the meeting, the council voted to allow the borough secretary/treasurer to purchase a laptop computer.
