CLEARFIELD – Citizens of Clearfield Borough will not see a tax increase this coming year with the passing of the 2020 tentative budget at Thursday night’s council meeting.

Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott said that the budget is extremely tight and most departments saw cuts, except for police.

Stott said that the police department roof has to be fixed and so some money was put into a capital improvement account for that purpose.

Tax income was lower than expected, she said, and other revenues were lower also, including the cable franchising fee the borough receives as more people switch to satellite or streaming options.

Stott is asking all of the departments to only purchase what they need this year, adding that everyone is working hard to keep the borough afloat.

She said it’s a balanced budget with total revenues and expenditures anticipated at $2,418,846. The tax millage for the borough is set at 27 mills.

Some of the biggest expenses include the budget for the police department at $989,584.97, streets—including garage and employee—at $334,419.17, fire department at $101,801.17 and code enforcement at $75,432.79.

The budget is available for review at the borough offices for the next 30 days, after which it will be formally adopted by the council.
