LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP – A third person has died as a result of the early-morning house fire that occurred Monday in Lawrence Township, Clearfield County.
Coroner Kim Shaffer-Snyder confirmed Wednesday night that the second child victim – a six-year-old girl – died at a Pittsburgh-based hospital.
According to a previously-published GANT News report, the fire occurred at 2:15 a.m. Monday at 127 Jury St., and it claimed the lives of two people, a 51-year-old woman and a seven-year-old girl.
State Police Fire Marshal Russell Stewart identified the woman victim as Mary Erickson of Clearfield. He said two others – Harry Erickson Jr., 30, and the six-year-old girl of Clearfield – were transported for medical treatment.
Upon investigation, it was found the fire occurred as a result of an overloaded electrical circuit, Stewart said, noting the cause was classified as accidental in nature.
Stewart said damage is estimated at $150,000, and the homeowners didn’t have insurance. He also said there weren’t any smoke alarms inside the home.
