Tide Hang Tough in 14-7 Defeat To Keystone

CURWENSVILLE – DESPITE HAVING FOUR TURNOVERS, THREE INTERCEPTIONS AND A FUMBLE, THE KEYSTONE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM FOUND A WAY TO PULL OUT A 14 -7 VICTORY OVER THE CURWENSVILLE GOLDEN TIDE FRIDAY NIGHT AT COACH ANDY EVANKO STADIUM..

FOR KEYSTONE IT WAS THE FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN TO IMPROVE TO 4-1 WHILE THE TIDE DROPPED TO 1-4 WITH ITS THIRD STRAIGHT DEFEAT.

BOTH TEAMS HAD CHANCES TO SCORE IN THE FIRST QUARTER AS CURWENSVILLE JUST MISSED A 44 YARD FIELD GOAL ATTEMPT BY SOPHOMORE JACOB MULLINS WITH 7:18 TO PLAY.

THE PANTHERS THEN DROVE INSIDE THE TIDE 20 YARD LINE ONLY TO BE STOPPED ON A JAKE MCCRACKEN INTERCEPTION AT THE TIDE 5 YARD LINE WITH 2:26 TO GO BEFORE THE START OF THE SECOND QUARTER.

AT THE 11:24 MARK OF THE SECOND SET OF 12 MINUTES, KEYSTONE QUARTERBACK ISAAK JONES WENT UP THE MIDDLE FROM THE 10 YARD LINE WITH THE GAME’S FIRST SCORE. THE PANTHERS TWO POINT CONVERSION ATTEMPT FAILED.

CURWENSVILLE TOOK A 7-6 LEAD ON A 58 YARD END AROUND BY MCCRACKEN WITH 2:32 TO PLAY BEFORE INTERMISSION ON A FOURTH AND ONE FROM ITS OWN 42 YARD LINE. MULLINS WAS GOOD ON THE EXTRA POINT ATTEMPT WITH THE TIDE GOING INTO THE BREAK UP BY ONE.

KEYSTONE WOULD BE THE ONLY TEAM TO THREATEN IN THE THIRD QUARTER, BUT AN INTERCEPTION BY CURWENSVILLE SOPHOMORE THAD BUTLER AT THE TIDE TWO YARD LINE ENDED THAT DRIVE FOR THE PANTHERS WITH CURWENSVILLE STILL UP 7-6 HEADING INTO THE FINAL FRAME.

ANOTHER PANTHER THREAT WAS STOPPED WITH 9:30 TO GO IN THE GAME WHEN SOPHOMORE ANDREW FREYER STEPPED IN FRONT OF A JONES PASS FOR THE PICK AT THE CURWENSVILLE 36 YARD LINE.

THEN WITH JUST 4:02 REMAINING, AFTER AN 11-PLAY 97 YARD DRIVE, PANTHER QUARTERBACK ISAAK JONES SCORED THE GAME WINNER ON A 5 YARD RUN AND THEN PASSED TO ALEX RAPP FOR THE SUCCESSFUL TWO POINT CONVERSION THAT MADE THE FINAL 14-7 IN FAVOR OF KEYSTONE.

JONES WAS 7 OF 15 FOR 94 YARDS THROUGH THE AIR AND RAN FOR 24 YARDS AND THE TWO SCORES FOR KEYSTONE.

THE TIDE REMAIN AT HOME FOR NEXT FRIDAY’S GAME AGAINST VISITING COUDERSPORT WITH A 7 PM KICK-OFF. IN 2018 CURWENSVILLE DEFEATED THE FALCONS 14-6.

THE FALCONS REMAINED UNDEFEATED AT 4-0 WITH A 55-0 THUMPING OF PORT ALLEGANY FRIDAY NIGHT.
