CLEARFIELD – Clearfield students who are reluctant to read will get some extra encouragement Tuesday night at the Clearfield Bison Sports Complex.
Hosted by Clearfield Area Elementary School’s Title 1 staff, “Tales on the Turf,” a literacy event, will take place from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on the football field.
At Monday night’s school board committee meetings, Superintendent Terry Struble invited families to enjoy this event with their students and friends.
He said Bison varsity athletes and band members will encourage children to love reading. He also said junior rec sports have been cancelled, so their participants can take part in Tales on the Turf.
“The weather looks like it’ll be outstanding,” Struble said, “and the hot dogs will be cooking.” This is the third year Clearfield has held the literacy event.
This past Friday morning, Struble said a Bison statue was installed at the Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School campus.
He said last year’s student council decided to use accumulated student funds from over the years to make a lasting community tribute.
He said student funds covered costs associated with the project, except for some concrete. “We have to thank our students for this gift; it [the Bison] looks sharp out there.”
Struble said the landscape, which surrounds the statue, will evolve over time, and the district hopes to install a plaque sometime in the future.
