CURWENSVILLE – Truck traffic is causing safety problems on Naulton Road in Curwensville.
At Monday’s Curwensville Borough Council meeting, residents who live on Filbert Street, near the intersections of Naulton and Bailey roads, asked for help with trucks traveling in the area.
The residents said the trucks speed down Naulton Road and have run up onto the sidewalk. One resident said his daughter was on the sidewalk, drawing with chalk and was nearly hit when a truck ran up over the sidewalk.
The residents said the problems were being caused by logging trucks and delivery trucks, but there are passenger vehicles that are speeding.
The residents said the posted speed limit is 25 miles-per-hour, but the vehicles are going as fast as 40 or 50 miles per hour. The residents asked if there could be a “Stop” sign placed on Naulton Road, similar to the sign on Bailey Road.
Council Member Tom Carfley said Naulton is a state road, so the borough cannot post signs. Carfley advised the residents to contact PennDOT. However, Carfley said the council will speak to the police department and see about having the officers conduct speed details in the area.
Also, at the meeting, the council discussed the ongoing efforts to raise money to purchase all-inclusive playground equipment for Irvin Park.
Carfley said they received additional donations and are about halfway to their goal of $12,000 for the first phase of the project.
He said anyone wishing to make donations for the project can send them to the borough offices, or if they wish to remain anonymous, Carfley said arrangements can be made for him to pick them up and deliver them to the borough.
In other business, the council voted to approve:
- Resolutions to allow the secretary to work with the county to secure a grant to purchase new police radios and to set up a separate account with Northwest Savings Bank to deposit the money the borough has available for the radios.
- Tabling quotes for paving on Meadow and Chestnut streets and Bressler Road.
- Paying the bills in the amount of $103,186.
