CMA Oks Cost Sharing Agreement with PennDOT for Utility Relocation Project

CLEARFIELD – Board members of the Clearfield Municipal Authority received updates on several items during Tuesday’s meeting.

An agreement between CMA and the state Department of Transportation was approved for a cost sharing plan for a utility relocation project.

PennDOT is planning to pave Woodland Road in 2020 and the utilities will need to be moved for the project. The agreement allows the contractor to do the work for CMA while completing the greater project with PennDOT covering 75 percent of the cost and CMA 25 percent.

A cost estimate has not been provided yet, but the board is anticipating the cost will be around $500,000. The designs have to be submitted by Oct. 11 with a planned start date in April.

PennDOT is also planning a similar project for Front Street at possibly the same time, but no agreement has been reached between PennDOT and CMA.

The main water lines on Woodland Road were installed in the 1930’s and are mostly 10-inch lines made of cast iron. The lines on Front Street are even older, having been installed in the 1920’s. The cast iron will be replaced with either ductile iron or PVC.

The board also learned that the Pine Grove North water main extension project is nearing completion. The lines have all been filled and disinfected and the tank needs to be disinfected.

Customers on a portion of the project have already begun connecting to the system and as other portions are ready for connection customers will be notified.
