PHILIPSBURG – Relay For Life of the Moshannon Valley 2019 will kick off Saturday at Geisinger Medical Center in Philipsburg.
The theme for this year’s event is Disney, and teams will pay homage to animated classics like as 101 Dalmatians, Winnie the Pooh, the Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo.
Walkers take the track at 8 a.m. and will be treated to music by DJ Gary Weyandt throughout the day.
The opening ceremonies are scheduled for 10 a.m., and will include the singing of the national anthem, presentation of the colors, recognition of sponsors and a team lap.
Registration for the Kids’ Coin Lap, sponsored by Hope Fire Company, begins at 1 p.m. with the lap following at 1:30 p.m. Those participating are invited to stay for the frozen T-shirt contest at 2:30 p.m. and the water balloon toss at 3 p.m.
There will be two seatings for the Survivor Dinner. The first will be at 3:30 p.m. and the second at 4:30. The Survivor Speaker will begin at 5 p.m. and the Survivor Lap steps off at 6 p.m.
Wrapping up the formal program for the event will be the Luminaria Service at 9 p.m. and the closing ceremonies at 11 p.m.
There will be a variety of entertainment throughout the day, including a demonstration by DJ Studios Karate, a performance by Front & Centre Productions from this summer’s production of ‘School of Rock’ and two performances by local classic rock band Jampact.

There will be concession, basket raffles and children’s activities provided by Relay teams and the Army National Guard.
Attendees are asked to park along the street or in the old Philipsburg Hospital parking lot. Attendees are also reminded that per Geisinger and American Cancer Society policy that pets are not permitted on the grounds.
To date, the 14 registered teams have raised more the $25,000 for the American Cancer Society for fundraising year 2019.
