DUBOIS – At Monday night’s regular meeting, the Sandy Township Supervisors voted to approve the hiring of its new police chief as Kris Kruzelak.

Kruzelak received his new chief’s badge, and it was pinned on his uniform by his wife following his official promotion.

In other business, Township Manager Shawn Arbaugh reported progress is being made on the noise ordinance, and the solicitor is currently reviewing a draft.

He also said there’s been some difficulty with acquiring a written legal description of Sandy Township.

Arbaugh also announced that any non-Treasure Lake resident who plans to attend the fireworks show should park at the mall. He said shuttle services will be provided to transport people to the lake.

During the public comment period, the supervisors heard from a resident who had a complaint about Advanced Disposal having the sole waste disposal rights in Sandy Township.

He said his previous dumpster provider gave him a quote of $380, but when it was learned he was a township resident, it had to be withdrawn. He said Advanced Disposal gave him a dumpster quote that was about $1,100.

Arbaugh confirmed that Advanced Disposal is currently the sole waste disposal provider, but the township could review its agreement when it comes up for renewal in 2020.
