BRADFORD TOWNSHIP – An out-of-state man has been accused of leading state police on a high-speed pursuit Monday night on Interstate 80.
Ching Yam Yeung, 20, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa has been charged by Trooper Zachary O. Moran of the Clearfield-based state police with felony aggravated assault, two counts, and fleeing or attempting to elude an officer.
He’s also been charged with misdemeanor simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief and accident involving damage to attended vehicle/property, plus 46 summaries.
According to a news release issued by Moran, troopers attempted to stop Yeung following several traffic violations on Interstate 80 east near mile-marker 121 in Bradford Township.
However, he reportedly refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed, which continued for approximately 30 miles. Rockview-based state troopers deployed spike strips and partially disabled Yeung’s vehicle.
As he continued east, Yeung’s vehicle struck a traveling motorist, failed to stop and struck a marked state police patrol unit, Moran said.
His vehicle was brought to a controlled stop by “legal intervention” near mile-marker 151 in Boggs Township, Centre County, and Yeung was taken into custody without further incident.
Unable to post $50,000 bail, Yeung was incarcerated in the Clearfield County Jail. He’s scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. June 19 during centralized court at the jail.
