The new Clearfield County Public Library Mobile Service Unit is getting ready to hit the road. The new van replaces the old bookmobile, which has been out of service for a few years due to mechanical issues.
Last year a capital campaign raised over $110,000 for the 2018 Ford Transit van that will require less maintenance, have lower insurance rates and can be driven by any of the library staff. It was custom built into a specialized mobile library services van.
The MSU will be a part of the Clearfield County Libraries’ Summer Bash on Wednesday, June 19 at Rockton Park in Rockton from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
This summer reading event is a collaboration between the CCPL, DuBois Public Library and Clearfield’s Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library.
Activities will be provided by the DuBois Dream Basketball Team, the Clearfield County Fair Queen Jayna Vicary and the Clearfield County Conservation District, according to CCPL Director Kayla Clark.
Soon the MSU will start a new route covering the approximately 46,000 residents who are not served by any other library in the county.
It can provide “pop-up” libraries by setting up at places such as community, senior and day care centers, nursing homes and churches.
