CLEARFIELD – This Saturday, the Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library will celebrate one year since the PAWS Program was created.

This program allows children the opportunity to enhance their reading aloud skills by reading 20 minutes to a therapy dog.

This is a one-on-one interaction between child and dog in a non-judgmental and loving environment.

Since last May, 37 children have registered for the program. Children come to the library on scheduled Saturdays to read to Radar.

Radar is a one-year-old German shepherd that holds many certifications. In addition to the PAWS program, Radar is involved in search and rescue, and does nursing home/hospital visits.

The public is invited to the library for a Meet-and-Greet with Radar. Students from the program will be on-hand to discuss how the program has impacted them.

Potential students are encouraged to come meet Radar and his handler, Alyssa Young.

The event will take place at the library from 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. with light refreshments being served.
