CLEARFIELD – The Lawrence Township Supervisors dealt with several items of business Tuesday including extending the life of the airport authority, opening bids for an additional paving project in the township and reminding residents of ongoing phone scams.
Police Chief Doug Clark reminds residents to never give any personal information out over the phone, including social security numbers, bank account and routing numbers, addresses or anything else.
He said if they win a prize, they will not be called and asked to give that information, and the IRS never calls residents. He added that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If anyone has questions, they can call the department.
Peter Smith, solicitor for the Clearfield-Lawrence Joint Airport Authority, said the statute governing the airport authority only provides for a 50-year span.
He said that a resolution needs to be approved by both the borough and township to extend the authority for another 50 years, which the township granted.
Clearfield Borough also approved the amendment during its meeting last month.
The supervisors opened four bids for an additional paving project in the township. Since the bids came in lower than expected for paving this summer, the township was able to add Litz Road, if bids for that project came in low enough.
The low bid was from Glen O. Hawbaker for $53,407.75 and was accepted by the supervisors.
Roadmaster Ron Woodling also noted that on May 13, the township will be doing some work on Firetower Road beginning around 8 a.m. Those using the road should be aware there could be delays for a few hours that morning.
Supervisor Jeremy Ruffner said he spoke with Reed Appraisals of Clarion about appraising both the building on George Street and the one in Hyde. The supervisors approved having the appraisals done at a cost not to exceed $2,800.
Ruffner also noted that the fire companies are doing their annual fundraising drive in the spring this year and are sending out letters. He reassured residents that this is a legitimate fundraiser.
