DUBOIS – Felony drug charges have been filed against a DuBois nurse accused of taking mediation intended for patients at a local nursing home.
Amanda Lynn Cluff, 31, was charged May 1 by Sandy Township police with 21 felony counts of acquiring or obtaining possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation, 21 misdemeanor counts each of refusal to keep records required and procuring for self/other drugs by fraud, as well as 20 misdemeanor counts of intentional possession of a controlled substance.
Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 7 during centralized court in District Judge Patrick Ford’s office in DuBois.
The charges stem from her actions when she allegedly signed hydrocodone and tramadol pills out for patients on a narcotic count sheet at the nursing home where she worked.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Cluff marked the pills as being for five different residents who were prescribed the medication “as needed.”
Her activity reportedly became suspicious because she then failed to record these doses on the medical administration record for those patients.
She was allegedly doing this beginning Jan. 2 and ending on her last date of employment on Feb. 13.
During an interview with police on Feb. 13 at the nursing home about her inconsistent record keeping, she allegedly admitted she had a problem with drugs, namely methamphetamine and opioids over the last three months and had taken the pills for her own use.
When asked if she had taken anything that day, Cluff pulled 20 pills out of her shirt pocket, that included 11 acetaminophen and hydrocodone bitartrate pills, four acetaminophen and oxycodone hydrochloride pills, two lorcet plus acetaminophen/hydrocodone bitrate pills, two acetaminophen and codeine phosphate pills and one morphine sulfate extended release pill, according to the report.
