Local CALs to Host Specialized Art Programs

Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc. and Galaxy CIU No. 10 is in partnership with the Pennsylvania Council on Arts to provide special artistic programs at Clearfield Centers for Active Living (CAL)

The Pennsylvania Council on Arts (PCA) is charged with development and promotion of the arts in the Commonwealth.

To accomplish its mission, the PCA encourages education excellence throughout the commonwealth.

They have partnered with the CCAAA and Galaxy to bring four, specialized artists to showcase their skills and talents at the Centers for Active Living (CAL) in May and June.

Terry Johnston, artist/teacher, has facilitated more than 40 public glass and ceramic murals and mosaics statewide, including the four crossroads markers for the history of the Kittanning trails.

Classes will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 12 p.m.

Adam Swartz Puppets is a hands-on workshop that will get participants involved in the visual art and performing side of puppetry.

Participants will learn to create and manipulate a puppet using “Muppet-style” puppetry techniques.  Events will be held at these Centers for Active Living:

These events will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.

Fiddler Bruce Young is a folk artist specializing in traditional fiddle and dance styles.  His expertise is the result of 14 years of classical training followed by 30 years of folk music performance.  Bruce will perform at the Centers for Active Living:

Performances will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.

Artist/Educator Cynthia Mazzant will present a Toast to American Pop Dance.  From the 1860’s through the 1960’s, Mazzant will take participants on a fascinating trip through a century of dance. You can participate at these Centers for Active Living:

Mazzant will be appearing from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
