Annual Family Fishing Day Being Held for All Ages

WEEDVILLE – Bennetts Valley Senior Center President Eleanor Green has announced the schedule for the sixth annual Family Fishing Day.

“If you don’t care to fish, there are plenty of other activities and food for the entire family to enjoy all day,” Green added. Last year’s Family Fishing Day drew a crowd of more than 300 people.

The family event will be held Sunday, May 26, at the Bennetts Valley Senior Center, located on Plum Street in Weedville. Fishing begins at 11 a.m. at the Kersey Run Stream located behind the senior center.

Approximately 2,000 trout will be stocked, including tagged prize fish. Prize fishing ends at 3 p.m. Those who fish must observe all Pennsylvania Fish Commission regulations. It is also PFBC Fish for Free Day (no license required).

Chicken dinners will be available from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Other food and refreshments will start at 11 a.m. and will include hot dogs, walking tacos, elk burgers, pulled pork, smoked brisket sandwiches, chicken nuggets, fresh cut fries, hot sausage, nachos and cheese, desserts, funnel cake, fried Oreos, fried dough and shaved ice.

Some seating will be available, but it is suggested to bring a lawn chair.

The event is sponsored by the Bennetts Valley Senior Center, Seneca Resources Company LLC, Sinnemahoning Sportsmen’s Club, Valley American Legion Post 978 and the Bennetts Valley Lions.
