DuBois Vocal Arts Ensemble to Present Spring Concert

DUBOIS – The DuBois Vocal Arts Ensemble will present Celebrate Music, its annual Spring Concert, on Saturday, April 27, at 7 p.m. in the Paul G. Reitz Theater, which is located at 36 E. Scribner Ave., in DuBois.

Directed by Eloise Kosko, the 26-member ensemble is comprised of 18 women and eight men.  They will open the concert with a jubilant selection by Joseph M. Martin, entitled “Celebrate Music.”

The DuBois Vocal Arts Ensemble is honored once again to perform an original composition by DVAE member Joseph Shupienis entitled, “Counterpoint and Harmony” (This is Our Song).

Other selections in the concert will include “Amazing Grace” with new music by Marianne Forman; a four-hand piano arrangement of “How Great Thou Art” & “Majesty” by Joel Raney; “All in the April Evening” performed a cappella; and an American folk music medley by Don Besig and Nancy Price entitled, “‘Cross the Wide Missouri,” which includes “Shenandoah” and “The Water Is Wide.”

Some lighter selections to be performed will be Bing Crosby and Groucho Marx’s “Lydia,” the Tattooed Lady” sung by the men and Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” sung by the women. The musical celebration will also include “I Love a Piano” by Irving Berlin and “Irving Berlin’s America.”

Also, the audience will be invited to sing-a-long on a medley of the music of the Beatles called “Love, Laughter & Legends” arranged by Roger Emerson.

Members of DVAE include the following singers:  Soprano I – Nikki Cherry, Leslie DeLarme, Teresa Kakabadze, Diane Kennard, Cathy Shank and Patty Stewart;  Soprano II – Kristen Knarr, Marion Meloon, Jennifer Pothoven, Rikki Ross and Michelle Wingard;  Alto – Molly Dressler, Karen Fuller, Jeanne Hayes, Colleen Lanzoni, Sally Laux, Sandee Schaddock and Barbara Shestak; Tenor – Perrin Chappel, Laybn Hollis, Vic Kosko and Tom Stafford; and Bass – Jerry Meloon, Joshua Orner, Joe Shupienis and John Sobeck.

Piano accompanists will include Eloise Kosko, Sally Laux, Sandee Schaddock, Barbara Shestak and Laybn Hollis.  Other instrumental accompanists will include Jeanne Hayes (Flute), Benjamin Pifer (Oboe), Madalynn Wilson (Alto Saxophone) and Annette Roy (Trumpet).

You don’t want to miss this lively presentation of Celebrate Music by the DuBois Vocal Arts Ensemble.  Tickets cost $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens (60+) and students and $5 for children 12 and under.
