REYNOLDSVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – Maddox Hyde, the Reynoldsville teenager whose request for Christmas cards sparked global support, has lost his battle with cancer.
A family member announced the news in a Facebook post on Wednesday: “With heavy hearts, we are sad to announce that Maddox has fought his last battle with cancer. Please keep our family in your prayers. Funeral arrangements will be posted tomorrow.”
Following his terminal diagnosis, 14-year-old Maddox, made a wish last year to fill his house with Christmas cards, and a campaign began via Facebook to help make that wish come true.
Thanks to the power of social media, the campaign grew well beyond expectations with Maddox receiving thousands of cards from around the globe. In one day alone, 10,000 items arrived.
He even received a card signed by President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and their son, Barron.
Maddox, an eighth-grade student at DuBois Area Middle School, was diagnosed eight years ago with neuroblastoma, a cancer of the adrenal glands.
