A three-year-old boy got the Christmas surprise of a lifetime Friday afternoon, thanks to the DuBois City Police Department.

Police cruisers, a fire truck escorting Mr. and Mrs. Claus and lots of presents arrived at Theone’s house.

The gifts were donated by the department and Treasure Lake Church.

Officer Zayne Rhed met Theone a few months ago on his normal patrol.

Rhed has grown to know Theone and his dad and knew Christmas wouldn’t be possible without a little help.

The gesture nearly brought Theone’s dad to tears.

“It means so much to me and I greatly appreciate it,” said Tracy Alexander. “I grew up on the wrong side of the law and I don’t want my son to grow up that way. I want him to grow up better. I’m supposed to be a tough guy but I’m about to break down.”

DuBois Police Chief Blaine Clark said the department very much enjoys helping people out like this.

“This is exactly the direction I want the department to go, to be very community oriented,” Clark said. “I want the citizens out there to know that we are there not just to patrol and police, but also to be friends.
