Women’s Team Pressed into Loss

DuBois Is Pressed Into Loss

The DuBois Women’s Basketball team had their first game back from the holiday break, and their first PSUAC game of the season. DuBois played host to Penn State Beaver tonight in front of their home crowd, but had some struggles in the first half that they couldn’t overcome.

As Beaver started off on a 14-0 run to start the contest, DuBois struggled to get the ball up the court. Beaver’s Diamond Thomas to control of the press as she picked up a few quick steals that led to her early buckets.

DuBois didn’t quite though, and Coach Lewis called a timeout to make sure of that. DuBois fought back hard and made a run of their own. Beaver’s pressure kept coming however, and DuBois had to scratch and claw for every point. With a few quick buckets from Maddie Sprankle (Johnstown, PA) and Leah Lindemuth (Brockway, PA) DuBois stopped Beaver from running away with the game early. Turnovers continued to plague DuBois though as they would end the half with 20 of them.

Thomas would have 6 steals by halftime, but DuBois was able to close the gap going into the locker room.
Coach Lewis made the adjustments at halftime, and DuBois came out point for point with Beaver. DuBois looked better in every aspect of the game, as they kept working to a rally point. They held Beaver to only two 3-point field goals in the second half, and held their turnovers to a much better ration as well. The damage from the first half wasn’t going to be overcome tonight however. This first conference game was going to be all Beaver’s to win.

DuBois Melody Young (Eldred, PA) Lauren Young (Bellefonte, PA), and Hope Bridges (Punxsutawney, PA) all ended the game with 13 rebounds apiece as a bright side for DuBois. DuBois outrebounded Beaver 60 to 54.
DuBois is on the road for a few games before returning to home action on December 15.
