Construction Schedule Update on Two Route 3040/Alternate Route 220 Bridges in Centre County

Centre County Bridge to be replaced as part of Public-Private Partnership

Construction continues on two Route 3040 (South Eagle Valley Road) bridges in Centre County.

The bridge replacement projects were started in late spring and were expected to be complete in November.

Due to unforeseen weather-related delays the projects are now expected to be complete in December.

Drivers will encounter alternating traffic patterns controlled by temporary traffic signals until the completion of the projects.

One bridge spans Laurel Run in Port Matilda Borough. The other bridge spans Dewitt Run in Unionville.

In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.

The Port Matilda bridge is referred to as JV-31, while the Unionville bridge is referred to as JV-33. They are two out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project.

JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.

The Rapid Bridge Replacement Project is a public-private partnership (P3) between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP), under which PWKP will finance, design, replace, and maintain the bridges for 25 years.

The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impacts on motorists.
