Gov. Wolf Issues Business Women’s Week Proclamation

HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Wolf has proclaimed Oct. 22-27 as Business Women’s Week in recognition of the integral role women have in the commonwealth’s business community and their diligent work in pursuit of equal opportunities.

Wolf acknowledged that in Pennsylvania women develop and lead successful businesses, are highly educated and trained professionals and distinguish themselves as leaders in specialized and challenging fields.

Additionally, he stated that today’s business women are advocates for workplace programs and policies that will benefit all members of society, which include equal pay for equal work, paid sick and family leaves and equal leadership/advancement opportunities.

Wolf encouraged citizens of the commonwealth to recognize and celebrate the advancements of all working women who have contributed and who will continue to daily to the economic, civic and cultural likelihood.

Business & Professional Women/PA is a statewide organization of 1,600-plus members in 75 local organizations and 12 districts throughout Pennsylvania.  It’s a leading advocate for working women in the commonwealth.

BPW/PA works on all issues that touch women’s lives and careers. Organized in 1919, the Pennsylvania Federation (BPW/PA) is one of the charter members of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs Inc.

The organization was one of the first women’s organizations to formally endorse the Equal Rights Amendment in 1937, and its members have led the drive for ratification ever since.

Since its inception, the Pennsylvania Federation has initiated programs such as: Luncheon Honoring Women in Government, National Business Women’s Week Projects, Workshops for Women, Youth Conferences, Leadership Training and Mentoring.

BPW/PA has endorsed many financial projects including: purchase of cancer research equipment, victims flood relief, scholarships, interest free loans to members and MATHCOUNTS.
