CLEARFIELD – Jeans for Teens, a program of the Clearfield Area United Way, has wrapped up its 15th year.

It was another successful year for the program, which helps to provide area middle and high school students with new school clothes.

According to board member, Brenda Terry, the CAUW will re-open the program next fall and accept a limited number of participants from area agencies.

However, she noted that donations are still needed to enable the United Way to continue this “important and self-esteem building” program.

Donations can be sent to CAUW, 18 N. Second St., P.O. Box 1430, Clearfield, PA 16830. “Jeans for Teens” should be written in any check’s memo line.

“Teens have to wear presentable clothing to school on a daily basis and some of their parents just can’t afford it,” shared Terry.

“Feeling accepted, getting along with peers and having a positive self-esteem are essential. And, at the middle- and high school-age, how you look and dress mean so much.”

The CAUW collaborates with area agencies, churches and department stores to make this program possible. Through a special partnership, each teen received $100 for clothing.

Terry expressed appreciation to Josh Kunkle, Clearfield Wal-Mart, and Marlo Weyand, Peebles, for offering “extra goodies” and making the total purchase “even more.”

She, along with the CAUW, were especially appreciative of Robert Kurtz Jr., who helped established the Jeans for Teens program.

The local United Way supports 23 local member agencies and is currently preparing for the kick off of its annual campaign in October.
