CURWENSVILLE – Heavy rains recently soaked the central Pennsylvania region; however, the Curwensville Dam has continued to operate as it was designed to.
According to Public Affairs Specialist Chris Gardner, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Baltimore, last night the dam “crested” and 18.3 billion gallons of water was being held back. At its crest, the dam was at approximately 44 percent capacity.
“The normal pool, as we call it, is 2.5 billion gallons of water, so it’s been the silent protector doing its job and holding back potential flood waters from the downstream communities,” he said.
Gardner also noted that the dam’s water levels are currently receding slowly and preparations are currently in place in the event Pennsylvania would feel any remnants from Hurricane Florence.
