CASD Oks SRO Agreement with Lawrence Twp. Pending Final Approval

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area School District will soon have a School Resource Officer (SRO) in its buildings.

On Monday night, the school board voted unanimously to approve an SRO agreement with Lawrence Township.

The agreement is pending final approval by both solicitors who are ironing out a few details, said Superintendent Terry Struble.

He said the supervisors are very supportive, and that was confirmed in a phone call he received from Supervisor Chairman Randy Powell.

Once the agreement receives final approval, Struble said he hopes to have the officer in the buildings as soon as possible. However, he said it will be up to Chief Doug Clark to staff it.

He explained that it is going to be a two-step process for Clark, who will not only have to staff the SRO position, but also the position within his police ranks.

Struble said the SRO position will be year-around and full-time between the Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High and Clearfield Area Elementary Schools.  The position, he said, will cost approximately $70,000 – $80,000 annually.

According to a previously-published GANT News report, Clark has already assigned an officer to serve as the district’s SRO.

Struble previously said when this officer is scheduled to work dayshift and doesn’t have police matters to handle, he’s been instructed to visit the schools and familiarize himself with the campuses.
