CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority board heard some updates from Director Josiah Jones at Wednesday’s meeting.

He reported that recent events in the county, including the Golden Gloves event in DuBois, the Red Moshannon canoe/kayak race and the Sportsmen’s Day in downtown Clearfield were big successes.

He said they had a waiting list of vendors for the Sportsmen’s Day and over 2,000 people came to the YMCA.

He heard a rumor that Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub ran out of wings, and board vice chair Sue Williams added that the downtown as a whole was very busy. Plans are to expand the event next year.

The new Web site is up and running and doing very well. Jones said they have been receiving hundreds of requests for visitor guides and have also been giving out many at events.

He said the rack at Rural King goes through about 200 a week and the reason is that people come from out of the county and even out of the state to visit Rural King

Jones said he has been boosting posts on Facebook. The post regarding the new Web site reached over 20,000 people including Cleveland, New York and New Jersey and they have been getting a big response from people in New York. Boosting the post regarding the new visitor guides resulted in immediate requests for copies.

Based on Web site data, the biggest age group researching destinations in Clearfield County is ages 45-54. The lowest number of searches comes from the 18-25 age group. The most targeted page is the events calendar, followed by the iMap feature, which allows users to plan itineraries.

A committee has been formed to keep the 100-Mile Yard Sale going and a press release was sent out to media outside of the county and the committee is receiving a positive response.

Jones said the members of Quehanna Industrial Development Corp., Shawville Power Plant employees and Goshen Township all worked hard to get things organized.

Other information included Jones noting that there has been a steady increase of hotel room rentals over the past year, with every month but July and August seeing an increase.
