Obituary Notice: Josephine Ann (Adams) Beres (Provided photo)

Josephine Ann (Adams) Beres, 92, died April 11, 2018 in the comfort of her family at The Manor in Morrisville, Vt.

She was born March 19, 1926 in Osceola Mills, the daughter of the late Frank and Sophia (Worek) Adams.

She married Albert K. Beres on Aug. 19, 1948 at the St. Joseph’s Church, and she was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Osceola Mills.

They made their home in Mulligan Hollow, where he built their house in 1956, next to his parents. Together they had three daughters Kathleen, Amy and Nancy.

She worked diligently as a bookkeeper and a seamstress, and she served in World War II as a Navy nurse’s aide, stationed in Arlington, Va.

She also volunteered at polling stations during elections, and she always supported women running for office.

A devoted Penn State football fan, she could often be found perched on the edge of her favorite chair, anxiously watching the Nittany Lions — or the local football team that her husband coached.

She was a skilled seamstress, and she enjoyed smocking, needlepoint and rug hooking. She was an avid reader and always kept up with the latest news.

She valued education, and she made sure it was an integral part of her family. Her husband was a teacher, and their three daughters all became teachers as well — and always have good books nearby.

Her three daughters each had a child, and she and her husband spent many happy years with their family, traveling to Amy’s camp on a lake in Maine, to sunny South Carolina and Florida and gathering for good food on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

She was fond of baking, and she balanced traditional hearty Polish food with fresh produce from the garden and an in-depth knowledge of nutrition and wellness.

Her husband, Albert, died in March 25, 2009.  She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Anna Hefferan, Helen Tomchick, Frances Hess and Eleanor Mulson and four brothers, Stanley Adams, Leonard Adams, Bernard Adams and Edward Adams.

She is survived by her three daughters and their families, Kathleen Neal and her husband, George and son, Colin of Saratoga Springs, NY.; Amy Marshall and her husband, Robert of Stowe, Vt., and daughter, Hannah and her fiancé, Joseph Normandeau of Waterbury, Vt.; and Nancy Vodvarka and her husband, Steven and son, Joseph of Philadelphia; and her sisters, Betty Pollisino of Jupiter, Fla., and Mary Louise Walker and her husband, Ralph of Mesa, Ariz. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

The family extends their warmest appreciation to all those who took the most excellent care of Mrs. Beres: Dr. David Bisbee and Copley Hospital, and the amazing staff of The Manor in Morrisville, Vt.

Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Monday at the Heath Funeral Home & Cremation Services LLC, 701 Lingle St., Osceola Mills.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Robert J. Horgas as celebrant, 408 Stone St., Osceola Mills. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Osceola Mills.

Military honors will be accorded by the Osceola Mills Honor Guard.
