CURWENSVILLE – Area student athletes participated in a trout stocking in Curwensville on Tuesday as part of the Squirrel Tails for Trout program.
Organizer Pat Domico noted to the crowd of family and community members that the students there have not only excelled at athletics, but also in their academics. He said they are part of what makes this area a special place to live.
Sheriff Michael Churner and Commissioner John Sobel also briefly spoke. Churner said he is proud of the students and their accomplishments.
Sobel added that Clearfield County is a county of champions and encouraged the students to return to the county to live when they have completed their schooling and “be a new generation of leaders.”
In all 450 fish were placed into the West Branch of the Susquehanna River Tuesday with the highlight being a 8.5 pound, 26-inch golden palomino trout. Domico said all the fish were between 15 and 26 inches in size.
Domico thanked Lezzer Lumber, the commissioners, Josiah Jones, director of the county tourism office and Wal-Mart Distribution Center employees.
He said he is very proud of area athletes and their accomplishments and dedication in their chosen sports and in the classroom.
Domico added that he is very pleased that Squirrel Tails for Trout could have a huge trout stocking in tribute to all the area athletes.
