Campus Corner: No Decision for Orsich in Third Start

BASEBALL

DUBOIS — Sophomore right-hander Brandon Orsich (Clearfield) pitched two innings and got a no-decision in his third start for Penn State DuBois Sunday in a 12-1 win that completed a three-game sweep of Penn State New Kensington at Showers Field.

Freshman Thayne Morgan (Clearfield) started in center field Saturday, drawing a walk and scoring a run in the Lions’ 8-1 nightcap victory.

The 3-0 start in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference gave the Lions a 13-7 record.

Orsich is 2-0 in four appearances with a 1.76 earned run average for 15-1/3 innings with 16 strikeouts, four walks and four hit batsmen.

Morgan’s batting average dipped to .258. He has eight hits, one a double, and two runs batted in.

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Freshman catcher Zane Morgan (Clearfield) scored as a pinch-runner for Juniata in a 9-5 loss to Lawrence (Wis.) University at Chain of Lakes Stadium in the Eagles’ final RussMatt Invitational game Sunday.

Morgan made his third start behind the plate in the nightcap of Juniata’s 16-5 and 10-4 sweep of SUNY Cobleskill March 20 and appeared in three other games, throwing out one baserunner.

He was hitless in four at-bats, drew one walk and was hit by a pitch in the four games.

The Eagles were 2-4 in the tourney and dipped to 4-12.

In 11 games, Morgan has three hits, one a triple, for a .200 average with four runs batted in.

SOFTBALL

CLERMONT, Fla. — Sophomore right-hander Raeleigh Redden (Clearfield) experienced control problems against D’Youville in her first start for Juniata at The Spring Games Tournament last week.

She walked six and gave up three hits and four earned runs in 1-2/3 innings in the 7-6 loss on the Legends Way 5 Field at the National Training Center.

The appearance was the second of the season for Redden, who surrendered one hit and one earned run in one inning during a 10-1 home loss to St. Vincent Mar. 17.

The Eagles split their 10 games on the spring trip and will begin Landmark Conference action with a 5-7 record.

Last year, Redden pitched in seven games, two of them starts, with a 2-1 record. She wound up with a 4.67 earned run average in 18 innings.
