Gary F. Sharpless, 66, of Altoona and formerly of Osceola Mills, died Monday, March 19, 2018 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.
Born Sept. 7, 1951 in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Francis E. Sharpless and Marian (Mayes) Sharpless Reams.
He married Linda L. (Wachter) Sharpless on June 18, 1983 in Osceola Mills. She survives at home.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 154 in Osceola Mills, also of which he was past governor; the Columbia Fire Company in Osceola Mills; and the Teamsters Local 8 in State College.
He worked at the Penn State University. He was also the owner and operator of Sharpless Plumbing in Osceola Mills.
Mr. Sharpless was the business agent for the Teamsters Local 8. He worked for Gerald F. Barnhart and Sons in Julian and the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
He was a 1971 graduate of the Philipsburg-Osceola High School. He later graduated from the Thaddeus Stevens Trade School in 1973.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Sharpless and a nephew, Todd Wachter.
Along with his wife, he is survived by one son, Brian Sharpless, Ph.D., of Germantown, Md.
At Mr. Sharpless’ request, there will be no visitation or funeral services.
