Gerald E. “Buzz” Hummel, 88, of Clearfield went to be with Jesus surrounded by his loving family Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Penn Highlands Clearfield.

Mr. Hummel was born April 8, 1929, the son of Burton and Geraldine (Millinder) Hummel.

He retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as an inspector after 30 years of service.

Mr. Hummel was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean War. He was affiliated with the Glen Richey Primitive Methodist Church.

He is survived by his son, Ronald L. Hummel and his wife, Nancy of Clearfield; two granddaughters, Ruth A. Mohney and her husband, Daniel of Mount Wolf and Maggie L. White and her husband, John of West Decatur; and his beloved great-grandsons, Daniel and Joel Mohney and Parker, Fischer and Griffin White.

He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Annabell J. Brown of Clearfield and Betty Jane Hummel of Delmont and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hummel was the last member of his generation. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Norma Mae (Brown) Hummel, to whom he was married Dec. 11, 1957 and who died Aug. 30, 2003; two brothers, Burton and Stuart Hummel; and a sister, Shirley Tkacik.

He enjoyed hunting, gardening, puzzles, painting and spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 7 at the Hyde Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Robert Croft and Lay Speaker Jim Kane co-officiating. Burial will be in Crown Crest Memorial Park.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post No. 6 and Veterans of Foreign Wars F. Michael Sicks Post No. 1785 Honor Guard.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield and again from 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 7 until the time of service at the church.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 108R N. Second St., Suite 1 B, Clearfield, PA 16830.
