Julia Smith, 86, of Clearfield died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield.
Born Sept. 17, 1931 in LeContes Mills, she was the daughter of Millard Frank and Myrtle Irene (Coulter) Houdeshell.
Mrs. Smith worked for both the former Philipsburg Cigar Factory and the former Friendly (MaryMac) Toy Co.
She was a member of both the Clearfield and Curwensville Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries and the former Bradford Grange.
She was first wed to Edward Grant Smith on Jan. 31, 1949 and who preceded her in death. She then wed George Hockenberry, who also preceded her in death.
In addition, she was preceded in death by three sons, Robert “Ribbit” Smith, Randy Smith and Anthony Smith; a daughter, Veralda Smith; a grandson, Thomas “Tommy” Smith; three brothers, Milford, Clair and Paul Houdeshell; and a sister, Marie Martell
Surviving are eight children, Chester Smith of Gary, Ind., Naomi Loggins and her husband, Mitchell Davis, Frank Smith, Jessica Smith and Willard Knepp, all of Florida, Edward Smith and Bradley Smith, both of Clearfield, and Julia Lewis and her husband, Daniel of Glen Richey.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Donald Houdeshell of Punxsutawney.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville with the Rev. Leanne Peters officiating. Burial will be in the Gillingham Cemetery, LeContes Mills.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville and again from 12 p.m. Wednesday until the service.
