Clearfield County Life-long Learning Institute Continues with March Classes

CLEARFIELD – Are you interested in learning something new? The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Inc., in collaboration with Lock Haven University Clearfield, announces upcoming educational seminars offered through the Clearfield Community Life-long Learning Institute.

Courses are geared towards the interests of the baby boomers and older citizens.  Typical sessions will last approximately 90 minutes and will be taught primarily by Lock Haven University faculty and community individuals with specific expertise. All programs will be free, or very low cost.

A Spring Serenade by the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra: 

You can sit back and enjoy the beautiful sounds from the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra (PCO). PCO is central Pennsylvania’s professional chamber orchestra.

Founded in 1991, the orchestra recently completed their 25th anniversary season.  PCO exists to provide the central Pennsylvania region with an artistically superb orchestra and orchestra concerts, as well as to develop an environment where the awareness and appreciation for orchestral music will flourish.

This performance will feature PCO stringed instruments and will feature the PCO’s principal oboist.    You can attend Friday, March 2, at the Lock Haven University – Clearfield Academic Building at 6:30 p.m.  Pre-registration is required.

Birds of Prey of Pennsylvania: 

What are birds of prey and what species can we see in Pennsylvania?  The answers might surprise you.  You can learn more, including a first-hand look at how we know what some species prey upon, at this program featuring “Dead Birds of Prey.”

The presenters for this afternoon will be Carey Huber, environmental education specialist, and Eric Rensel, natural resources specialist from Parker Dame State Park.

It will be held at Lock Haven University, on Tuesday, March 8, at the Lock Haven University – Clearfield’s Academic Building from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.  Pre-registration is required.

On Tuesday, March 2 at 1 p.m., you can “Explore the Lumber Heritage Region – Past, Present, and Future” with presenters Holly Komonczi, executive director, LHR; Steve Manginell – outreach coordinator, LHR; and Jonathan Geyer – Hardwoods Development specialist, Hardwood Council.

This presentation will be a tri-fold of information about the 15-county Lumber Heritage Region (LHR).  The Lumber Heritage Region is one of the 12 State Heritage Areas covering 15 counties in north central Pennsylvania and their relationship with the forest.

The speakers will present information on things to do in the region and highlight some of the main attractions.  They will also talk about the past, present and future of lumber in the region.

The Pennsylvania Wood Mobile will be on site to tour and discuss the lumber industry and its importance to Pennsylvania’s economy and some important facts about Pennsylvania Hardwoods.
