RIDGWAY – The Elk County Democratic Committee is hosting its annual petition-signing lunch this Saturday at the American Legion, 330 Main St., Ridgway.
Doors will open at 12 p.m. and the event will run through 2 p.m. A meal of soups, salads and sandwiches will be provided. Registered Democrats from Elk County and the surrounding area are welcome to attend.
A donation to the committee is requested. The event will feature candidates for Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor and U.S. Congress. Anyone interested in attending is requested to call the committee chair at 814-594-5500.
Among those scheduled to visit are Lt. Gov. candidates John Fetterman, mayor of Braddock; Craig Lehman, Lancaster County commissioner; Aryanna Berringer Army veteran and IT project manager; Ray Sosa, business consultant; Madeleine Dean, Pennsylvania state representative; and Kathi Cozzone, Chester County commissioner.
Marc Friedenberg and Wade Jodun, candidates for U.S. Congress, will be in attendance. Representatives from Kerith Strano Taylor’s Congressional campaign, Tom Wolf’s Gubernatorial campaign and Bob Casey Jr.’s U.S. Senate campaign will also be there.
As a special guest, Nathan Caggiano, a junior at St. Marys Area High School, will be speaking on the impacts of the FCC’s decision to overturn President Obama’s Net Neutrality rules.
Caggiano was recently featured in local newspapers after he boldly stood up before his fellow students to give a eulogy to the Internet.
Elk County’s lunch is one of 10 petition-signing events scheduled in western Pennsylvania this weekend for Democratic candidates for state and federal office.
This year marks the fifth year for the “Northwest Weekend” as Democrats from various counties work together to bring statewide candidates to the region.
The series kicks off Thursday in Centre County and runs full circle across western Pennsylvania, concluding with a potluck dinner back in Centre County on Sunday afternoon.
Additional local events are planned for Jefferson and Clearfield counties on Friday and Clarion and Warren counties on Saturday.
Locally, the Jefferson County event is a meet-and-greet at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Taylor Law Firm, 340 Main St, Brookville, PA.
It will be followed by the Clearfield County event, an evening social at 7 p.m., at the I.B.E.W. Local 5 Union Hall, 1400 Leonard St., Clearfield.
All area Democrats are encouraged to come out and meet the candidates at each event.
