Avanell Ruth Vaughn, 93, of New Millport died Friday, Feb. 2, 2018 at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born March 4, 1924 in Fruit Hill, she was the daughter of Harry Clair and Oma Jane (Bloom) Tobias.
She was retired from Kent’s Sportswear/Bayer Clothing Group, Fletcherville Plant, after 40 years of service. She was a 1941 graduate of the Beccaria Township High School.
She was a life-long member of the Fruit Hill Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder and a member of the Women’s Missionary Society.
She also was a member of the New Millport GFWC Woman’s Club. She was gifted with the talent of designing and sewing beautiful quilts and baking delicious pies.
On Jan. 25, 1946, she wed William L. Vaughn, who preceded her in death June 2, 1979. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Alma (Tobias) Swatsworth.
Surviving are four children, Mira Lee Streiner and her husband, Paul of Aliquippa, David Vaughn and his wife, Jayne (Spencer) and Joyce Norris and her husband, Denny, both of New Millport, and William Vaughn and his wife, April (Dennis) of Curwensville.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and a sister, Inez Tobias of Fruit Hill.
Funeral services for Mrs. Vaughn will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Fruit Hill Presbyterian Church, with Pastor LeAnn Gill-Peters officiating. Burial will follow in the Fruit Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville and again from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
