Shirley J. Depalma, 74, of Philipsburg died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Born Nov. 23, 1943 in Temple, Texas, she was the daughter of Chester I and Margaret Jean (Dahlin) Johnson. She was Protestant by faith.

She was a 1961 graduate of the Moshannon Valley High School. She was also a graduate of the Altoona School of Commerce.

She taught Sunday school, was the Sunday school pianist and sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Nittany Lion Club and the Penn State Alumni Association.

She was employed at Penn State University in the Office of the President from 1964 until 2001 during the terms of Eric Walker, John Oswalt, Bryce Jordan, Joab Thomas and Graham Spanier.

She first married Stuart R Woods, who preceded her in death in 1983. She later married Angelo Depalma, who survives in Allport.

Surviving are two sisters, Sandra (Francis) Zapsky of Madera and Barbara Dinant and her companion, Jack Luster of Philipsburg; two nephews, Scott (Stephine) Dinant of Charlestown, W.Va., and Zachary Zapsky of Madera; and a great-nephew, Ryan Dinant.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale, with Pastor John Dill officiating.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the I.O.O. F. Cemetery, Brisbin.

Due to her fondness for the Memorial Day services, she requests that donations be made to the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, P.O. Box 215, Brisbin.
